Self-care as an artist (updated)

Let us talk about self-care as an artist.


What is self-care and how can I do it as an artist? I going to list four things I do as an artist to practice self-care. Then I explain each in more depth.


1.) I make art to cope with my mental health.


2.) I journal and make my journal spreads creative with washi tape and craft paper.


3.) Since I have anxiety, I do the bullet journal system this also allows me to do self-care by being creative in my space.


4.) I listen to upbeat podcast such as “spiling the paint water”, “The Rachel Hollis podcast”.



First on the list is: I make art to cope with my mental health.



To go more in depth, I have bipolar and PTSD. So, I have depression and anxiety one of my huge coping skills is to make art to help with my mental health. I started doing this in 2017 and have done it for three years going on four years now. I am working hard on my art business while also raising a child and taking care of my family. Having this craft of making things is my own self-care time.

To expand on this, I find time to put on meditation music and grab my journal to start. I typically have journal prompts printed out and pick one. Catlin Da Silva has these prompts she put in her email this week and they are fire for going in deep. I want to share them with you.


How do I feel love's presence in my life, at this moment?


How can I deepen my relationship with myself?


How do I express love to people I care about?


When I say the words, “I am loved," I feel [fill in the blank].


Do I depend on others to make me feel loved?

I used to have a planner and then a journal, but I found the bullet journal system to be much easier. I still have a separated journal for poems, and journaling almost every day.

The Rachel Hollis podcast is a business podcast, but it feels like you’re chatting with a friend. It is a podcast I listen to while I am working on my business.
